That is a classic bad or shocking news omen. For years it was a running joke in our family that during our Christmas meal, one of us ( my husband & I, or his brothers and their wives) used to announce some sort of family news – pregnancy, illness, bad news, good news …. every Christmas Day we used to look at each other to see who had news to impart! LOL
Well, occasionally, my mama has called and said “You need to sit down for this” and it’s been shockingly GOOD news. But if not a relative (or if it’s most of your relatives), then yeah, not a good sign…
